Small Business Install: Bar & Beer Garden

What the Client Needed

A bar in downtown Cincinnati was having a tough time with its old network setup. The outdated equipment and thick walls of the renovated building made it hard for both employees and customers to connect.

They needed a network upgrade, but they also wanted to expand coverage to their Beer Garden. That way, the vendors for their new food truck initiative could connect their point-of-sale system to a reliable and secure internet connection.

The Work We Performed

Since we didn’t know who the current network admin was, we had to dig into the old configurations to figure out what was going on. Working with the client’s management team, we were able to move their Point-Of-Sales system over to the new equipment without having to open a ticket with that provider.

We replaced the old Wi-Fi Access Points (APs) with modern equipment and moved them to new locations to give patrons better connections.

We also added a third Access Point outside in the Beer Garden. Since this new location was too expensive to wire directly to the network, we used a “mesh” connection that provides stable internet to the Beer Garden without needing a physical connection.

The client had their old network equipment in a storage closet, mounted directly on the wall. While this closet was in an employee area, access to the equipment wasn’t secured. We installed a locking IT Cabinet for the new equipment we installed to limit any unauthorized or accidental access.

Results

We took it slow and steady to make sure the client had all the network power they needed during business hours. No need for them to shut down for a retooling day! Over a few days, we rolled out the new network without any interruptions, and everyone’s internet experience drastically improved.
